The climate initiative aims to reduce the co2 emissions in an attempt to manage global temperature rise.
It does this by encouraging countries to cooperate by managing their energy consumption and production.
A large proportion of international CO2 emissions were due to these four nations, so it was thought if these four countries cooperated, then CO2 emissions could be reduced globally.
Its having an impact, but still some way to go to meeting the Paris agreement which is not the goal, but would certainly help the overall objective.
