Bubble Trouble
Bubble Trouble
There is no Planet B. (Well not, yet!).
There’s plenty of calls for action, to be more sustainable.
This article is not one of them.
This article is a guide on how you could think about sustainability, for your individual life, as a whole.
Everything that comes into your home, or office or when you travel, is driven by you or your company, or family’s choices. It’s your little ecosystem, or Bubble, that you manage.
As you make choices, for your bubble, you can make sure it’s sustainable, by asking these 3 simple questions, as you pay, subscribe or dispose of them.
- As it enters into your bubble, and you pay for it, ask yourself, what is the price on the environment? Is there a more sustainable alternative yet, affordable, in the long term, for my bubble?
- As it leaves your bubble, ask yourself, what can I reuse, or recycle, or someone else can reuse?
- During its time in your bubble, are your actions, and your usage sustainable in your bubble
There are more options than ever before, for making your bubble sustainable.
What options? Reduce, Recycle, or re-use in your bubble.
For example some Simple actions:
- Reduce energy usage for Regular actives. For travel. Walk, cycle, bus or train for the weekly shop, or work. Work. Social actives. Walk, cycle, bus or train. It’s also healthier, exercise, a time to unwind, time away from the screens, work, and societal engagement, with people.
- Recycle, Reduce and Reuse energy. Green energy. Rechargeable batteries. etc.
- Reduce and reuse in one hit. Materials science is transforming. From seaweed-based, packaging instead of plastics, to sustainable Clothing materials.
- Reduce food costs. Meat alternatives, Sustainable means of farming.
- Recycle electrical appliances. Rubbish. Bags. Clothing. This has been well marketed, already.
- Reuse. As it leaves your bubble can I or anyone else reuse this in another way?
These have all been highlighted, before. Yes. There’s plenty of literature out there.
A more Drastic Action: Blacklist retailers that don’t provide sustainable options. Let them know, you as the customer, won’t continue to use their services, unless they become more sustainable.
Not everything is economically viable, yet. Or practical. Sadly, it is true.
Consumer choices and Convenience has driven the economy, since the 1950s.
Who? The consumer? Who’s that?
You, Me. Everyone. Our choices drive the economy, every single day.
You decide what becomes economically viable, due to market forces for all our bubbles.
You decide what comes, goes and is used in your bubble, and the bigger bubble, Planet Earth.
Is your bubble sustainable?
Since Generation X (1980s teens) we have seen more societal and technological change, at an accelerated rate, than ever before in history. We can add one more to the list, for the future of our bigger Bubble, Planet Earth.
Accelerated transformational change can be driven by you, the consumer for your bubble, and the bigger bubble. Earth.
In summary, think of your life as a bubble, as a mini-ecosystem that you manage.
Apply reduce, recycle and reuse to everything in your bubble, as it enters, leaves, or lives inside it.
This happens in nature, automatically on a planetary scale.
Nature’s automated evolution, architecture and design are pretty amazing!
Only us humans, don’t choose to do it. For convenience, it seems.
There are roughly 7.7 billion people on Earth.
Imagine, if we. had 7.7 billion sustainable little bubbles.
That’s yet another accelerated, transformational change, that this generation can make.
Our bigger bubble. After all, we do have Bubble Trouble. With no Planet B.Big Answers
