Ok, I’m on my blogging soap box, again.
How can you provide a solution, to a problem that you aren’t even aware, exists?
I loved this article by David Mytton on data centres and energy consumption. Kudos to David.
https://davidmytton.blog/how-much-energy-do-data-centers-use/
A very scientifically analysed topic, that does need attention.
Data centres, which the “cloud” is built on all over the world, is contributing 2% of the human carbon emissions, currently.
Growth of data centres is inevitable, energy efficiency may increase, yet not enough to reduce that 2% of emissions.
Since the cloud plays a large part in my livelihood, I do play close attention to emerging tech that offer solutions to help data centres become carbon neutral.
I’m glad to say, there are lots of possibilities, but none will be implemented, if we aren’t aware of the issue.
On reflection, I do seem to go on about the Bubble Trouble that lies ahead, a little sadly.
I think the sadness comes from the fact, that there are solutions, and that the worst of it is preventable. It is possible to survive it. If only, people open their eyes. Look a little deeper into where your energy consumption lies. On a micro and macro scale.
Open your eyes.
Update: Microsoft tries Underwater Data centre - Higher Resilience and more efficient energy.
