OK Google! Find me the Needle In a Haystack!
This was me at IBM Think last month in London, standing in front of a quantum computer! Sadly, it wasn’t a working one, it wasn’t cold enough!
So What’s so good about Quantum Computers?
High speed calculations.
Conventional computer: 10years to do trillions of calculations - at room temperature
A quantum computer: 39 minutes do 2m calculations - at room temperature
Quantum supremacy - Trillions of calculations in 3 seconds - at a cooled temperature (Google say they have reached this milestone)
What can QCs be used for?
- -Searching huge amounts of data.
- -Modelling of Atoms & Particles in unusual conditions
- -Modelling of chemical reactions - atomic interactions follow a quantum process
- -Cracking existing cryptography (don’t worry the best security experts in the world, are already on this!)
I wonder which of these use cases, Google is interested in developing... Searching through more data, perhaps - “OK Google, find me the Needle in the Haystack!”
So have Google made the Leap to Quantum Supremacy?
Maybe the Google founders have followed Sam Beckett, and Quantum Leaped...
