Previously, in 2022, I reviewed the UK Energy Strategy and made comments. It's 2026 and where is the UK with Energy? https://arunakoya.wordpress.com/2022/11/27/the-uk-energy-strategy-reviewed/
How has the Ukraine conflict affected the UK Energy supply?
The UK used 18.95TWH less of fossil fuel energy in 2024. Figures are pending for 2025.

UK is making progress.
The world's goal would seemingly to be to use less fossil fuels.
Why?
To reduce CO2, emissions of course.
But who produces the most CO2 emissions. Not the UK.
While the UK may focus on using renewable energy, our consumption does not impact the needle on the world scale.
Moving the needle enough to impact climate change is needed at the scale of energy consumption by US, India, China and Russia.
Those four countries going renewable will provide a lasting impact on climate change.
UK going fully renewable, whilst great for our quality of life, is good, will not impact climate change.
Does that mean we stick with fossil fuels? Not at all. It means whilst we go green, we ensure it is clear in everyone's mind, why we are using renewable energy.
We are switching to renewable and alternative sources of energy, because of supply issues of fossil fuel.
There is a supply issue.
When we need to spend a significant amount of the country's income on energy costs paying other countries for fuels, why do it?
Why not generate our own energy with renewables?
Easier said than done.
Is it?
Switching to solar panels supply is straight forward for home owners, and once you have made the switch, the energy supply issue is resolved.
Do we all go solar? Of course not. But if a significant % of households did switch to solar, then it would help the whole nation.
UK Energy Strategy - Big Question.
Do we need Nuclear? I don't think so. I could be wrong, but I think if we try a mix of the renewable energy sources we could heat and power our homes.
Solar, Wind, and Tidal are all possible in the UK.
Could renewable energy sources provide us with enough heat and power our homes.
Is there data to back that statement up?
But what about transport?
We use a lot of petrol & diesel in the UK. But we are going electric. Are there enough electric vehicles? Not yet.
Three actions for UK energy supply issues.
- Switch households to use more renewables such as solar.
- Encourage more electric vehicles, so less demand on petrol / diesel.
- Invest in large scale renewable energy solutions.
Summary
We have made progress since 2022.
Renewable energy, has increased in its prevalence in the country.
Solar powered homes are growing popular.
Electric vehicles are everywhere in the UK.
US, Russia, China and India focusing on their energy consumption and sources, would have a greater impact on climate change, than the UK.
UK is doing well, with its switch to using renewable energy. It is decreasing its dependency on fossil fuels.
Still action required, and here are Three actions for UK Counsel to encourage in 2026.
- Switch households to use more renewables such as solar.
- Encourage more electric vehicles, so less demand on petrol / diesel.
- Invest in large scale renewable energy solutions.
