I would say unusual-looking; I wouldn't say beautiful.
In April 2018,
Zaha Hadid died. I had been interested in her architecture for some time, but I thought it would be nice to see some of her buildings in person. So I headed of to one of her buildings in London, the
Roca Gallery in Imperial Wharf.
A fascinating building with an interesting space inside decorated with smooth curves that represent
illuminated water droplets. The water drops are continued in the very structure and shape of the rooms. The rooms, or sections, use the contrast of the grey concrete with the white illuminated "drops" to continue the water droplets theme. Some of the illuminated drops are on the walls, and are used as shelves. Others are on the ceiling.
The building is used as a gallery, a space for exhibits of bathroom fittings and exhibits of timber construction. It is relatively small gallery, it had lots of interesting architectural information (about timber and use in construction).
The bathroom fittings were very interesting as well, as you can see below. A great deal of work and care had been to coninue the illuminated water droplet theme. See the picture of the sink below.
In all I was there for half an hour or so, and it was a really amazing to see how the shapes were utilised in the structure.
I am definitely going to visit more of her buildings.
